Title: been gone for a while...still on the road making sawdust
Post by: backwoods sawyer on December 18, 2016, 10:08:25 PM
It has been close to a year since I checked in here....
However the mill has been on the road making sawdust all over the state... The north coast was a wet stretch...lost my best sawyer kind of wet... So put the boys to Working . Then worked the southern part of the state well into spring... The summer racked up a lot of miles on the mill as I was in all parts of the state....
Picked up an LT-40 super and put it to work up on top of the cascades along with the cook's mill, which has a new motor on it, the edger, and the LT-70... All mills lined up end to end in a large log yard milling out home packages and filling a lumber yard with cedar... Took the LT-70 down into the valley's  for a couple weeks this month... Rained the whole time....flooding kind of rain... Finished up down in the valley's..... Got all mills on the mountain again working in the snow..... Brrrr this working with no shoes was not an issue till the snow got to be 30" deep.... Doctors are still in a holding pattern.... So until they get it figured out, a year and counting, I will continue to be Oregon's only full time bare foot sawyer...

Hey, good to see you back.  Thought maybe we (I?) ran you off!

Where in the Cascades were you?

Sawing with bare feet, you might better put on some steel toed socks at least...

Sounds like you're busy, that's good.  What's your favorite mill being set up stationarily sawing out house packages?

Lapine....is where the mills are at... I am working on stetting up an Outpost in Gilchrist... And commuting from Over by wallamitt pass....
Semi stationary is suiting me fine this time of year... Like to keep one mill on the road...
I am not so certain that steel toed socks will help keep the feet any warmer than good ole wool socks do while snow blowing... Besides wool gets good traction... 36" on the ground, 12" of it today and it is still coming down...
If I get tired of milling pine fir and cedar another mill (LT-40 hyd) in the area has more order's for Juniper then he can mill...and I don't mind milling small logs...
