What would you take to spend a few months on the coast in remote Alaska?
I do not want to sink the barge, and we will have a plane flying in now and then that I can get forgotten things in.
Food, coffee everything that a guy has to have other than clothes is furnished.
This list is just for when a guy isn't working.
there is at least at times some fishing to be had.
The way I understand it there is lots of deer, even more bear, maybe some moose, and probably some waterfowl to hunt.
The way I understand it, there is a lot of gold in the area.
I can take a pickup if I want to, but really do not see the need. I think I will take a couple of 4 wheelers instead.
Right now my list is as follows, I am sure there will be more as I think about it.
Four wheeler
rifle, maybe 2
handgun
shotgun.
ammo for all above
fishing gear, light weight to salmon weight
gold pans and acc, maybe even a sluice box.
metal detector.
ice chests.
gas cans
My four wheelers already have survival gear that stays on them at all times, fire starter s, first aid kits, axes, survival blankets, tarps and parachord and rope., winch and tow straps, tool kits and spark plugs, will be adding a plug kit too.
Skeeter dope, skeeter dope and more skeeter dope.
What else am I not thinking about.
Waders
batteries
battery charger
TP, even though it is already on board the truck and the fourwheelers.

Batteries for the gadgets you bring, water purifier, jerky, cheese, butter, flour, cornmeal, and beans, cured ham if obtainable, heck I don't know, you are the Yukon Jack of the bunch, look on the back of your hand
-
I'd be sure to have at least 2 pairs of good boots and socks x 4 for those boots. 2 coats, 2 light coats, etc. Pretty much have a backup for everything I guess. I think the idea that a plane can bring in stuff you need/want is a good thing and probably makes things quite a bit less worryisome.
Will there be satellite internet up there? That would be the cat's ass for entertainment when you don't have any energy for the fun stuff outside.
This sounds like a hell of a fun adventure and I wish I was going too. I can drive rig, perfect record for 6 years on the road in New England and east coast! Please?

Full fishing gear for certain. A .338 and something maybe a little smaller and a 12 ga scattergun. If you are a reloader I would take that equipment as you might find yourself doing more recreational shooting than you have been in down time and that would save a bundle.
-
Right now, it is a toss up between a 375 h&H and a 45/70 then probably a 308 MX. A 12 gauge for sure, just haven't made up my mind what type.
I do not think I will take any reloading gear, at least this first year. I have plenty of ammo ready except maybe for shotgun, and do not load it anyway.

Waders!
-
Duh, gots to have my waders. Is there no way to edit my post and add waders??
-
Should see a MODIFY button on there LOL
-
No modify button for me, don't know what I am doing wrong. I have it when I first post, but it goes away and all I have left is the quote option. lol
-
Yes after a period of time you can no longer go back and modify the post. I am certain that Kirk Knows the exact time (the administrator can set it to whatever they want) but within that time you can edit a post; after that the option goes away. I think it might be either 12 or 24 hours here.
For this case:
Take your original post copy it (control C) add the "waders" to it then re-post it and call it revision 1. Then revision 2 later when you think if the next item you want to add, etc.
-
Or? go ahead and pack the waders, and the corresponding patch kit(s) necessary for them. Might even throw in one of those walking stick, depth checking thingys while you're at it. Just thinking here, and wondering if there is a chart of sorts that lists the timing of native hatches of insects, and crustaceans and the such, in the event you have to mimic some baits on the fly.
-
Everyone should be able to modify their post? If you're not seeing that option let me know. I just checked and permission is marked for everyone to be able to modify their post, just not remove it.
-
The modify button is gone on my last post, so it must be 12 hours.
-
Yeah, the modify button goes away the next day for sure. I'll take starmac's word on it that it's gone in 12 hours. :)
-
unless it's changed from the last setting, and post that was made concerning modifying posts, 2 hrs is the cut off time limit.
-
And now I am scrambling to find where that is set at???
-
Please tell me you now see a modify option in your threads?

Please tell me you now see a modify option in your threads?
Yes the modify option is now available for a thread I posted 10 April 2018.
I went back and check a Nov 27, 2014 post and it is there as well.
Therefore it appears you have opened it up with what looks like no time restrictions on modifications.

Cleaning kits for the weapons!

Toilet paper. In your pocket. At all times. :-X
I learned long ago to always have some in my overnight bag when driving rig. I had a bout of "intestinal distress" from who knows what, while halfway to north Jersey at about 3:30 in the morning in the middle of stretch of highway. Had to quick run for the wood line and was so eternally grateful for the roll of paper towels left in the cab of that Freightliner.
Ah, the memories....

Ox, everything I own, right down to every 4 wheeler has a roll of TP in a ziplock bag in it. Probably came from driving truck all over the world and eating some truly rot gut meals at times.
-
over the counter meds for diarrhea! Hope you never need it but if you do your glad you have it! Although MOST of the water in AK is safe to drink, there are still some bad bugs that can make life miserable on the back end!

Smart man right here, folks.
Got me to thinking I've come out of the woods when hunting or out of the hay field when farming missing one or both socks to an unfortunate set of events. Coulda been worse I suppose. Never had to lose a shirt....

Try the cross bronx freeway in NYC, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go, at least it was dark. lol

I have found that the "One Wipe Charlies" sold by Dollar Shave Club to be almost essential. You can do the same thing with moist towelettes, but the one wipes are in a comfortable package. I take them when traveling everywhere, including foreign and road trips. If you have them in your pocket, or backpack, you will not be caught in a restroom without TP either, and it is way more sanitary.

So is this done? have you left yet? I just saw this..

He must be gone with the wind. Hope things are working out and it's a successful trip for him.

Welcome back to the land of the internet. Give us an update. Don't be a stranger to the site. How was your adventure?
-
I am still here, just took a computer break.
I did go and absolutely loved it, but my health only let me stay 2 weeks, which was long enough to get my driver settled in. That didn't pan out either though.
I did take the mill but we never even set it up, it turned out Alaska mental health, who owns the land bought a new mill and sent a crew in this year.
They worked up into october and a couple of guys even stayed the rest of the winter, the boss man and a skeleton crew flew back in yesterday.
If I was just a little heatthier, I would be there too.
I saw lots of moose, and both griz and black bears, but later after I left the bears got thick and they were at war with them for a couple of weeks, a couple even made there way into the camp building. lol
I have been hauling logs the last part of the summer and every day since freeze up, till we finished up thursday and I hauled the skidders and the generator truck out friday.
We should be starting another sale, if they get the last ice bridge in, they were going to try and get the 7 across the river today, haven't heard if it worked or not.
