If you have never been to the Sawlex show I would suggest going. Its a great show and the sawmill shoot out is a great time to see numerous mills in action.
http://www.huggercom.com/sawlex/index.html
I am working on my schedule so that I can go.
-
Man, that is 4,000 miles from the Left Coast. It would be nice the attend such an event, but time and dollars. Besides, "they" might not let me get on a plane.
-
Reading the web page what strikes me as different (for me) is the slant toward small business and small equipment at Sawlex compared to the Oregon Logging Show which want to sell you the fastest, biggest and best.
Many of the same exhibitors attend both.
I'd almost guess looking at geography and population density of the areas covered it would be just the opposit. Strange world. I wonder if the western wood product domination by "big timber" is a factor?
-
I do think that the big timber is the major factor for the differing sizes of equipment at these kinds of shows.
-
I'm going to try and make it only about 2 1/2 hours away
-
Come on out Frank! It will be a blast! I got the hotel covered provided you arent planning on stiffing me for an extended stay without first discussing it with me :o ;)
Remember that adventure Buzz :o
-
You know Frank, it looks like all you guys on the left coast could car pool out. ;D Think of all the war stories you and the guys could tell and re-tell over the long drive! :D
-
According to recent reports...................we would only need to drive to Oklahoma and catch a 'twister' for the rest of the ride  ;D
-
In this political climate, we don't allow left coast people in Oklahoma! ;D

Great news on Sawlex!
Sawmill and Timber Forum has been invited by Ted Hugger, the show Promoter and Sponsor of Sawlex 2009 and Sawmill and Woodlot Magazine to be part of this awesome event. They are providing us an area to visit with one another and to promote our forum.
In addition, I'll be happy to extend "association" status to all of your members....that'll save them a couple of bucks when registering for the show. (Under association, when they register, they would just write in or enter "Sawmill & Timber Forum" to get the discount.
Register by phone: Call 207-799-1356

I cant encurouge you all enough to participate in this event. Its well worth seeing and you will probably bump into a lot of friends from all over the country. I know I have already gotten several emails from old friends asking if I am attending. Pack up the vehicle and come join in on the festivities!
-
Its official! Sawlex has provided us with booth #303 :)
Stop by and enjoy the show!
-
Sorry, my Lear is in the shop.
-
OK Frank, we dont need the carbon foot print of a Lear bringing one excecutive across the country.
Instead, I have found flights departing Portland on the 28th flying into Pitsburg, round trip, for less than $250!
Buzz and I will pick you up in Pitsburg as we are going right through there on the 28th from our trip to Ohio.
The plan is we pick you up, drive to Morgantown, WV (62 miles) and check into the hotel and have a nights rest for the next days events at Sawlex. I already have the hotel room squared away so there is no expense there. Your return trip is out of Pitsburg on Sunday, the 30th bringing you back to home sweet home.
Minimum expense, minimum carbon footprint since lots of people are on the plane, you get to see lots of old friends, new friends, and most important of all, They all get to see you!
Please join us!

You must be talking about those we contend with here (transplanted) from CA and points back East.
BTW, recently know of a couple who moved away...........know longer have to deal with their liberal views. Guess where they moved...................OK ;D

I have a long standing committment to be teaching Outdoor School during that time period. I will see if there is some way of changing a day perhaps make the gig. I will check tomorrow with the Polk SWCD, of which I am a board member.
-
Frank that would be awesome. I promise a good time!
-
Hey Carl, what day are you going up to Sawlex? Cross your fingers, looks like Frank is going to make it. We should know for sure on Monday.
What about the rest of you Left Coasters? Airline tickets have not been this cheap in a long time! Take a break and come join the fun!
Jay, OK is even closer so I will pick you up at the airport with Frank. ;D
-
Kirk I'm going up thrusday nite I want to be there when they open the gate ;D
-
Where are you staying?
We will be at the Holiday In Express north of town.
-
I havent booked a hotel yet do you think all will book up This will be my first sawlex event
-
There were several room left at the Holiday Inn Express. Not sure if it will sell out or not.
There are hotels listed on the Sawlex site that might have room closer but since those rates were higher than the Holiday Inn I stuck with HI.
-
Where did you want to fly into and out of, as well as what day did you want to to fly back here?
-
The closest and cheapest is Pittsburg, PA. Fly in on the 28th then fly out of the same place on Sunday, the 31st.
I am in Canton, OH the 27th so I will be driving through Pittsburg on the 28th and its only 90 miles from where I am at so if you can get a morning arrival or early afternoon that would be great.

Now what. I just got a call from a past student and he has asked that I perform his wedding, on the 29 of May. What a delima! :'( :'( :'(
-
Nothing like a wedding at a sawmill shootout ;D :D ;)
29th of May :o Nothing like planning ahead. Is this a shotgun wedding :D
-
No, this is not a shotgun set up. Has been well planned and all. They had someone ahead of me, but they bailed due to a major medical issue. I would have been the second fiddle. ::)
-
frank are you a pastor too??
Thanks Alot Mr Mom
-
MR. Mom, sometimes, after 30 years of teaching, I feel like I am. Some of the students often felt I was preaching to them. ;) ;D
