Need Mobile Dimension Color code
« on: February 10, 2012, 08:42:56 PM »
I need to find the color code for my MD sawmill in Congo.
I would like to have the right color when repairing the sawmill.
I have been in contact with the factory without any luck. They do not have the color code.
I'm hoping for some help here. Maybe Frank Pender have done some painting on his MD.

I guess I need to visit Frank P and see it for my self  :D

But Kirk, do you by any chance know any with an MD and a bucket of original paint? I need to know the color code.
My MD is in Congo and I do not have one single part with the original MD color here in Norway.

I will do some checking for the color code, via Napa, on Monday.  I can take a sample of a fresh clean part, into the store and they can match it for me, I hope.  There is a gal there that is an expert at such things.  She use to be a house rental tenant, here on the Tree Farm.

Well, here we go.  Persian is the title for the color area at the Napa shop.  Mfg.#921002: matching serial number  at Napa is 12016.  That is the best I can do, at this moment.  I will give a call to Dawn at MD and see what I can come up with.

Found this on another site:

Quote
The MDS shade of orange is Mixermobile orange. Mixermobile was a company in Portland, OR that made three-wheeled concrete mixers starting in the 1930's, I believe. The Wagner brothers, who owned the company, later invented the first articulated frame wheel loader, in the early 1950's... this was the Scoopmobile. I can't quite remember the story, but Ron at MD told me one time why the first MD's (1960's) were painted this color... either some of the parts were fabricated at Mixermobile, or they got a deal on a bunch of paint, I forget the story. I'm sure if you call MD, he'll tell you the story, too... and let you know what shade is the best match.

Dawn at MD came with an answer about the paint code:
Pantone 172C (12 pts pantone warm red 75.0 + 4 pts pantone yellow 25.0)

She told me that each paint shop will use this code up against their color chart.

I will need to check that out.

Now I need to see what kind of quality the paint needs to be.
Dawn said that they use a quick dry paint.

Most likely a high quality for the torents of rain you have, from time to time, I would think.

Still no solution on the MD color code nightmare.

I have been trying to find out how to mix the MD color using your Pantone color code without any luck.

I hear that I need to get the RAL color code, not the Pantone. Pantone (PMS) is used in the graphic industry.
In the automotive and industrial painting they are using the RAL color chart. See the link for the RAL colors: http://www.ralcolor.com/

I've had really good luck using "allis chalmers orange"  as a match on my 1979 mobile dimension.
Not sure what the color code is, but when I ask for it in the paint shop it turns out well.
