Good gas milage
« on: March 11, 2015, 04:08:38 PM »

Yesterday I milled 8 1/2 hours sawing hard and used 3.25 gals diesel, the little Isuzu is making better mileage than ever.   My old Kohler gas 27hp used 1 gph and the Isuzu usually uses 1/2 gph which doesn't seem like a lot of difference but I saved 2500 gallons of fuel in 5000 hours which at $3.50 a gal come to $8750.00.  It cost me about $1400 to put the Isuzu on my mill plus most of a week as it was a  total retrofit but well worth  it , also it saws almost twice as fast as the Kohler in wide cuts.   Steve

Thread is useless without photos.   ;D

What mill do you have ?

Where did you get the Isuzu engine for it ?

How much was the new engine ?

What's the HP rating of the Isuzu ?

That is great fuel economy.  ;D

My mill has the 51HP Cat. I have gone through 10 gallons in an 8 hour day.  :-\

How do you like the Isuzu.

Since the mill originally had the pony motor do you still have it or with the Isuzu did you set it up to run off the main motor.
I need to figure out what I am getting out of my Kubota (gph).  I have not really tracked it much.

It still has the pony motor which has been real trouble free, I'm on the 2nd motor now.   I like the Isuzu, other than a couple electric fuel pumps no problems.  Steve

With the 42 hp kabota five gallons of diesel will last all day.

I have the 35 hp kubota and don't have a problem burning more than 5 gallons in one day.  It ain't actually a pony motor, just a seperate engine to run the hydraulic pump, no?

The B20 has a 6hp gas motor down in the frame running all of the hydraulic which is a good setup with no energy chain as needed on a main engine hydraulic setup but the head up-down has to be electric which is no where near as fast as a hydraulic up-down.   Fuel used can vary quite a bit between sawing hard wood with helpers to sawing easy wood by yourself.   Steve
