Creasote power poles to Bridge timbers
« on: August 18, 2016, 03:12:37 PM »
Spent most of the morning cutting bridge timbers.  3" thick, 14' long, and as wide as the pole would give me.

I had spent last Sunday removing metal from them but even after getting up on the mill I found a few nails I had missed...........fortunately before I started cutting!

Had to cut these to replace the bridge to our property that literally floated away during the heavy rains.

The small remaining tops to the the poles in the above pick will become 4x4 treated posts for projects on the farm.

Hi Kirk,
Just curious. What did you use for breathing protection, and how much of a mess did the creasote make?

20 mph  wind at my back the whole time!

I never cut this stuff without a good wind blowing it away at my place.  The few times I have cut for others I used a standard painter's respirator mask.

No mess, just lots of dark black sawdust that will go into the burn pile.
