Energy, pain and endurance
« on: October 10, 2017, 04:33:54 PM »
It's very hard to endure with energy when one's body is wracked with chronic pain every day.  I try not to bitch and moan about it.  I don't want to be considered a whiner.  This was just a simple and accurate observation of myself.
All I did was fell a tree, skid it, limb it and buck it to length and I feel wiped out.  There was a few other things done as well, but nothing to make me feel this bad.  Life ain't fair sometimes.  I see perfectly able folks on disability and welfare.  Not a damn thing wrong with them.  They give the whole system a bad name, so when the ignorant out in society hear I'm permanently disabled and see me walking around they think I'm a liar.  Pisses me off.
Sorry for the rant, but I can't be the only one in this boat.

When I was a kid, I used to think my grandfather was funny as hell when he would stretch his back and you could hear it pop, pop, pop...and now, 50 years later, it is me.

I live with a lot of arthritis pain, and since I still work construction, I am physically active most days. The last 2 days, I have been stacking blocks for an ICF home we are building, and like John Wayne in the movie "Cowboys", I feel used. And since I feel all the aches and pains, it sometimes hurts to just walk.

The problem I have with assessing pain though is like a headache....I get bad headaches....so the doctor asks "migraine", well....it hurts...and he says go you feel like the light increases the pain? Nope.....can you still work when you have a headache?...sure...then it isn't a migraine.

How do you really know how much pain you are in and if it isn't just normal for the aging and a hard life?

One thing I've noticed is doctors say they understand your pain problems.  Bull.  I think we need a pain specialist who's has chronic pain.  Only somebody who always hurts somehow can understand.
It hurts me to walk, sit, stand or to lay down for bed.  There is nothing that gets rid of it.  I too abused my body through hard work and have many problems associated with accidents, broken bones and multiple concussions from these things.  None of these problems come from fighting cause it ain't in my nature.  Not that I've never been in a fight, but it's been many years.  Like Charlie Daniels said:  Don't go pushing me against my will, I don't wanna fight ya but I durn sure will, if you don't want trouble then ya better just pass me on by...

For those of us in pain everyday struggling just to move:  I've heard there's a nice place free of pain, anger, bad anything, just waiting for those of us who live life the right way here on earth.  I can't wait.  :)

Ox quoting Charlie Daniels-nice! Ever read his posts on CDB soapbox?
You've probably already looked into Lyme and other tick borne disease but I had to ask.
If you want to try a snake oil cure, look into Raw Milk. I know it's reduced my aches and pains especially my back. Beware if you believe the governments take on it:the CDC says it'll kill you.

Hell, I'm an old farmer.  Raw milk was just milk to us and we got it straight out of the bulk tank, cream and all.  It was delicious.  Try feeding that to a city slicker and he'll have the trots for a week.  This kind of living is long over for me now, and the only farms left won't give any up for fear of a lawsuit if somebody gets sick.  It's a bad situation.
Yep, been there and done that with the Lyme.  It's all over around here but you don't hear much because we're north Appalachia and so are forgotten like the rest of our mountains to the south.
I've tried just about every supplement, mineral, oil, pill, food, additive or liquid you can think of.  Nothing helps.  It's several chronic conditions that is only dulled by opioids.  The pain killing drugs are a necessary evil for me, unfortunately, along with the demonization of these drugs due to widespread abuse by druggies.
If anyone has any other suggestions, maybe something I may not have tried, I'm all ears.

The only thing I have found without taking a drug is the hot tub at 104 degrees twice a day, and B12 every day.

Raw Milk ??  Bad !!!  Well according to mainstream media and an unregulated, oppressive, and near communistic government of these United States.   >:(  I guess our forefathers lived off hoe cakes and water while building this country into what it is.   ::)

Grew up on "fresh squeezed" until college.  Amazing how the taste would change with the seasons.  Spring greenup being the most noticeable flavor on the pallet.  I still shake a gallon of milk every time I get it out of the fridge.  18 yrs of shaking the cream into the milk is a hard habit to break.  My wife doesn't understand.  LOL

To find a Pain Specialist that "gets it" is almost like finding the proverbial pot of gold.  They do exist.  Those particular Dr's have a heart for their patients and genuinely want to help them live a better life.  Problem is the regulations that bind their hands that can vary from state to state.  Getting treatment in one state may violate the laws in another and cause issues for both treating physicians.  The laws have gotten out of control to the point a Dr. can't even adhere to the Hippocratic Oath they hold in such high regard.

Opioids are a double edged sword.  A persons body builds a tolerance which creates issues much like Ox is describing.

Ox, try cutting back on your doses (split the pill) and work up to the point of skipping every other one.  Takes at least a WEEK to begin to get your system flushed.

Withdrawal could be a M-Fudger and might be ahead to warn the family.  Drink lots of clear fluids (non-alchoholic), go easy on greasy foods and pursue the veggies/fruits and manage the "mental" part as best as possible.  1st three days will be the worst.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking.... You'll be a pithin' 24 hrs a day  ???, eatin' so much fiber you'll be afraid to pass gas  :o and be ranting like a sumbich ready to rip everyone's head off  >:D.  Well, could be just that.  BUT, ya gotta get your system cleaned out.  Doing this every 6-8 weeks makes a huge difference.  Each time will get easier.

Bet ya money by the end of week two, the meds start working better at managing your pain and probably on a lower dose than before.   8)

joasis - Yep, I've tried the hot tub and Super B complex vitamins.  Unfortunately they didn't help anything, but I'm glad you've found some reprieve.

Cutting Edge - This is a very interesting thought.  How long do you reckon I should be at a reduced dose?  Or are you saying to completely stop them for a while?  If so, how long?  I see the week to get my system flushed, but is this at a reduced dose or completely quit?  I'll have to time this because they take piss tests every quarter to make sure I'm taking them and not selling them or something.  Of course I pass no problem cause I don't do anything wrong, but try explaining to them what your suggesting I should do and the meds don't show up properly on the test, right?  ::)  I'd be accused of all sorts of atrocities.  I wish there was a natural or at least over the counter med that I could substitute without burning my liver.

In all honesty, the fact that these pills are the only thing that gives me any kind of break from my pain causes me some worry thinking about not having that.  This position is exactly what caused me to go down the road of boozin'.

I have a lot to think about.  Thanks guys.  You're the best.

Ox,

Yeah, wait till you're in the clear on any testing.  Grab a bag of adult diapers on the way home if just in case you're digestive system isn't accustomed to a diet higher in vegetable/fruit fiber and water /juice.  LMAO  Couldn't resist.   ^-^

First go around, you might only make it to 1/2 doses by the end of week #1.  Week #2 keep the goal in sight but don't back off/quit unless you feel you can.  Probably alot of mental dependency comes into play also.  First time doing this gives you and the family an idea of what to expect the next time.

End of week #2, go back to your regular schedule.  Might find you can do the same or more on a lesser dose, maybe not.  But, the effectiveness of a normal dose should be quite significant compared to before.  Only you know what you can handle pain wise.  Regardless, it's worth a shot.

I see what you're saying now and thanks for the explanation.

What kind of diapers would you recommend?  ^-^ Smartass....lol

In all seriousness, I eat a pretty decent diet overall so I'm thinking I may not have much trouble.  But then again, after cutting back off the poo hardening meds I may be in a for a "healthy" surprise.  Possibly this is something to try at the first of the year.  Unfortunately I have a bunch to do before snow flies and then my next piss test is coming in Dec. sometime, then Christmas is coming so.......I need to have stress and mostly work free for my mind to cope trying this.  I know me better than anyone and I don't particularly like me.  But I like my loyalty and honesty!  That's two things that ain't too bad!

I was never a believer in acupuncture until our vet did it to one of our dogs.  After that my wife decided to try it and then 4 years later with an injury that was not responding to western meds I tried it.
I am hooked as a believer.
There are things that it can be used for to treat soft tissue injuries very effectively but it can also be used for pain management as well with great effect.

In your case the pain management is what I think you would be looking for.

I will admit I have a prejudice in this regard as a result of the experiences I have had.
I really believe the acupuncturists trained in China are much better than the ones trained here in the USA.  If you can't find one then I would still give it a try anyway.  I just find that the Chinese trained ones are better IMO.

I am trying to avoid any opioids of any kind, and especially  xanax type drugs. My doctor told me that extensive research is indicating not only liver damage, but may be linked to Alzheimers disease.

I have a bad c5 disk that after sitting on any hard surface causes pain and amazingly, the only thing that has worked was Relief Factor.  Don't know why, don't care, just know that it works for my issue.  https://www.relieffactor.com/

joasis:  thankfully I don't need any drugs for mental disorders, although my wife might beg to differ! lol

Kirk:  do you take them as the pain comes on like an aspirin or is it more like a vitamin with daily doses?  If the former does it work like asipirins in the time it take to kick in?  Does it help any with other joints and muscle pain?

They are a daily supplement, all natural.  Takes a few days or week before I noticed the difference but they definitely work.

I avoided this thread, just cause I thought I would feel better by not adding to the pain.  Inflammation  is the root cause, at least as far as I know.  What caused or continue to cause this inflammation is the trick to removing the results and pain from it.  Diet is for sure a constant, and supplements do seem to help, as does chiro's and acu-pressures, and punctures.  The sad fact is, and at least for me, once I see the picture of the bones, the nerves, and feel the pain,  I realize its a part of life, rather a part of my life.    I feel for you Ox, and anyone else who suffers from either degenerative bone issues or accidents that changed the scheme of things, and those, myself being one, who kinda just tore up myself when I was dumb(er) and younger.  Dad tried to tell me.  I could go on, but am learning that humble pie is a good diet, its not fattening, and in the mornings, the sunrise looks as beautiful as it ever did,, PTL.

I understand the "tore myself up when younger" more than most folks out there I suppose.  I did stuff to myself through vigorous and unending hard physical labor that nobody should ever have to deal with.

Endure.  Overcome.  Stay calm and modest.  These are my words for my life.
