Can anyone explain a chain flail debarker? I would like to debark only the worst logs in my log yard . I handle logs with a truck mounted picker. Thanks, Doug

Doug:
From what I can find it's similar to a flail mower which is comprised of a large drum with rows (staggered) of chains. The drum spins around and the chains hit the bark to remove it. My only question about it would be whether it hammers/imbeds sand and grit in the log. I had a flail mower quite a few years ago when I first moved to Kentucky and it was great in area where it was rocky.

T hanks for reply. Is this machine stand alone or mounted on something like a tractor? Where I live there has never been any pulp wood activity. The local paper mill was a waste paper mill.

I have never seen a flail debarker, but a friend of mine has an old hydroax, that he bought for parts, it has what I think is a mulcher, that is a flail. I suspect it would do more than debark though.
