Well it was not a good day.  My setworks decided to take a vacation so I was sawing manual which is not big deal.

Nothing cosmic just trying to do some protection tube planting stakes for the next week.  Think stickers as to style and size.

Well I got tired of the mundane timber sawing so I tried some metal sawing
Not a good result.  Only about 15 inches of blade damaged but I don't think it is recoverable no matter how I try to sharpen it.

I would be saving that blade for something that your not sure you would want to risk a good blade on. Like cutting an old railroad tie.

I run my blades until they break.  I also touch them up with a dermal tool.

Is your mill self propelled or do you have to push it?

Very cool, Mine is totally manual and it gets hard to push if I let the blades get dull enough to break.. or if I run them through a piece of metal..

I used some old bandsaw blades for gas tank strapping in a vehicle.  Heat up quick with a torch, to cherry color I think, to anneal and then it drills through pretty easy.  Never tried to drill without heat so I don't know that part.  I quickly cut off the teeth with a cutoff wheel in a grinder.  Don't take long at all.

Yeah, I've been keeping all my blades, dull ones to resharpen someday, the trashed ones because..... well I don't know I guess. :-)

WAIT A MINIUTE... I wasn't supposed to be talking to you!  ::) >:D ;D

What, you guys are not cutting them into 15 inch pieces and selling them on ebay? I have seen pieces like that on there and asking price was what a new band sells for. lol

Some guys here use them for bear protection on their cabins.

I'm envious of that yellow pine.

Red pine has knot rings every 2 or 3 foot or so.  Going from clear to knots time after time plays hell on keeping perfectly straight lumber.  It's fine with a razor sharp blade, but it don't take long for that sharpness to go down just a touch, then it starts wandering a tad, then more and more until you're tired of seeing the little light gaps between blade and cant when you cycle back with the carriage.

A.O., I don't remember if they were calling them anything different. I am thinking I just did a search for woodmizer and they came up. I really did not pay much attention to them.
Anytime I ruin a blade, I know of somebody that can cut it up and use it at their cabin, so they don't get totally scrapped.

This might bring a laugh... I bring tons of what I call good band blades
home from our local junkyard. I slap one on the mill and touch it up
with a dremel. I'm at the point that I don't think I will ever need to buy
a new band. last week I was cutting BIG $$$ walnut with no problem.
Once you learn how to set and sharpen any tool then you can use it
until it snaps or looses it's size to do it's job.

I always wonder why setters and sharpeners are so expensive. They are so simple its ridiculous.

I still want to make a set of rollers up for setting the blade. be pretty easy to make a timed set of rollers that you just clamp the blade in crank it around and the sets are perfect on every tooth.

Would be a single operation.

Where did you get that setter tool, or did you make it?

Setter tool is home made... I never found the need for a roller.
I'm thinking that not all mill concave the blade or they are running
them to tight. I bought a brand sharpener to sharpen my bands
but the time it take to remove the band and put it in the machine
I already got it done and the log sawed up with the dremel .

I just want a set of rollers to make the set. not necessarily to flatten blades. I prefer not to flex them if they do not need to be. That will just add to fatigue.

When I get around to playing with it I will be happy to show it off :) right now I have no way of sharpening or setting. But this is going to have to change.

My sharpener idea is a drag style sharpener that uses a blade section for a profile cam.

Looking at some of the stuff Kbeitz has conjured up, I am suprised he hasn't come up with a self sharpener and setter, that works while you are sawing.
