You will find out how solid it is when you cut it. I really can't stand old logs, guess that because there is so much wood around. People think blue stain is cute but they won't buy it.

That's what some of my red maple looked like after the carpenter ants got to them.

KB are they just showing up or are you cutting them? I have the same problem I have a pretty large pile and a mill that is still in pieces. I need to hurry up and get the mill done so I can do some milling. Customer paying jobs keep getting in the way.

My log pile is growing faster than I can cut...
This happens every spring. A month ago I had all the pine on sticks and then comes 2 truck loads. This must be sawn and sprayed for blue stain in spite of the fact that it is the busiest time of the year. Long hours, 7 days a week until it is done and pray no more pine until October.

Be ready to do some free milling for these folks down the road sometime.

"Remember when I GAVE YOU those free logs - the really, really nice ones?  Well..........I have some more I need made into boards and I was hoping the free logs will cancel out the sawmilling fees..."  At least this is how it is around here.

Ha! I tried to put out the word I was looking for logs and all I got was people wanting me to come help them remove them from property (some still standing) and people expecting me to pay for them!

First lady I had call me said she had a big tree that was taken down in her yard and wanted it gone, so I asked her about the location and she goes into this thing about her husband saying it should be worth about 60 cents a board foot!  HAHA!

Yeah, the one thing I've always noticed about reality shows is there was NO reality involved at all!

You saw what you can get but open grown trees are not ideal for making lumber compared to forest grown.

Somewhere down south was a co. that made water wheels of steel until ww 2 or later.  Along the St. Lawrence river on the Canadian side is old Canada village. In season they operate a water powered sawmill, an up and down, direct connected to some kind of tub wheel. It is a cross between a turbine and water wheel, I really don't know the proper name for it. It sits in the raceway that has one hell of a flow below a big pond. This mill is quite a show.

Getting closer to calling the mill done. Need to put some chain supports on it. and fix the belt tensioner I broke off. Then paint. Still need to add lights to the trailer one day but at least that is painted and good to go for what I need to do.
