« on: May 01, 2008, 06:24:16 PM »

Listen to your DR.  Your blood pressure is dangerously high for a 25 year old.  I am no Dr. but am an EMT and your pressures are nothing to ignore.

Dont know what your habits are but if you drink, STOP.  Alcohol destroys the heart muscle, faster in some than others.

We had a local 27 year old that drank like a fish and he died from an enlarged heart.  He was on a dry wall job one day and dropped dead.  Dont mean to scare you but I beg of you, get the help you need to fix the problem.

Keep us posted and I sure hope your Dr. gets you taken care of fast!

What ever you do, dont underestimate the seriousness of this.  You may not get a second chance to make the right choice.

It can be a tough habit to break but in most cases we see that breaking the habit comes easier with the "true" support of the people you associate with.  If they are drinkers, chances are it will be tougher to quit.

I quit years ago and looking back I realize it was the best thing for my health, my parenting of my son, my marriage, and a real plus for the pocket book.

As a local EMT I can tell you I see more lifes destroyed from Alcohol than any other single thing in our area.  We have a local that cant be 23 years old and is SMASHED everynight of the week.  He is on a path of self destruction.

If heart issues are not enough to convince a person to stop drinking go spend time in a hospital and visit the 30-40 year olds dying from liver failure, which most is caused by drinking.  42 year old local was laid to rest last fall and his death was from 20 years of hard core drinking and he truly suffered a painful end to his life.

I had heard he told his children to please never drink again.

I use to drink like that when I was in the service but something about a 4 year old boy handing me a beer and saying : "Daddy, why do you drink so much?"  Probably havent had more than a six pack in the past 20 years.

What type of tests did they run on you?  What was you blood pressure?

My brother was having some heart issues (regular drinker) with diostolic blood pressures above 100, which is not good.  As a teacher it turned out "most" of his issues were in fact stress related to his job.  They have him on medication to control the blood pressure.

Personaly, I think the best meds would be to stop taking anything that contributes to medical problems first to see if the meds are reallly needed.

well they gave me a echosomthing somthing....kinda like a ultrasound but for my heart and then regulat blood work and a EKG yesterday and then today.....my local hospital is kinda a joke they tell people they are okay and they go somewhere else and they find out that they have cancer....know more then one person who had that happen....anyways....now they got me on a 48 hr ECG monitor thing and whenever i have the pain in my chest ( they call it a pain but it don't hurt?) i push a button and write down what i was doing....i am the tyope of person who stress's over the smallest dumest things...my girlfriend thinks i have OCD. i plan everything out and when somthing go's not as planned then i just start freaking out......they gave me a zanax and i tell ya what this is the most relaxed i've felt since i was a little kid...only had the thing happen once very very slightly since i took that pill and that was because i had to go take my final exam for college.

my B.P. when i went in was fine they said ( i didn't look or ask the numbers) but i know when i went in cause the of the worse headach i ever felt.....felt like the back of my head exploded......was 9 months or so ago and thats when i found out i had hypertention...that time it was 180/140 or 180/120.....that time i got a shot in the butt to relax me and that brought it back down. since the pills (atenolol 25mg) i havent realy had any issues with the blood preasure.
the doc says it might just me a....somthing with a h for hearts not on a steadt beat? on sunday i take the monitor off and then on tuesday i go see my doc and find out from there....oh they also x-rayed my cheast....

i thought i might have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy   from what i read on the american heart acc. site but i guess i'll see what the doc says and mabey even go to a heart doc in wisconsin or minisota?

thinking i may have wasted 200 bucks!

that must be a tough job ya got, i was going to go to school for a x-ray tech....but the thought of seeing people hurt everyday kinda scared me away....i know it's helping people but i personaly dont think i could do it. so instead i picked the second best thing my community college had to offer water tech ( water plant operator). looks like it's going to be a crapy week for weather....drive safe...i don't knoiw about them cheeseheads sometimes

oh i'm glad theres people like you who can do it......

a few years back me and some buddys were going to check our deer blinds and we were on public land well we came around a corner and there was a 4 wheeler fliped over....the guy was all drunk and busted up preaty good ( his gun was broke in half) we got out and asked if he was okay when we seen he wasn't  i sent two of my buddies to call for help and one stayed with me and the guy....well the guy wanted us to help him up and i told him to just stay put well my buddy started to help him up and i was teling him not to well anyways about a hour later help came and i was suprised the ambulance made it back there.....when the EMT's jumped out the lady went running up screaming the guy's name! turn's out it was her brother! a while later we found out that the guy had a ruptored spleen and they said 15 more minutes he woulda been a goner!  to me he just lookd drunk and a broke nose!

stuff like that i'm okay with but a buddy of mine from Iowa was a volunter fireman and he had some stories. only was for 2 years and couldn;t do it anymore.

so i thank you......wish i could do it.....i tired for the army but they turned me down. i always wanted a job where i'm helping people.

Dumb question, but is non alcoholic beer and option? I would guess that if drinking were the problem, cutting back to an ounce (equivalent of one beer) would probably take care of it. I wish it were so with smoking.....but I had to quit...it was killing me.

NA beer is fine.

The part most folks dont understand are the ill effects smoking and alcohol have later in life.

For example, my mother (70) who is fighting pancreatic cancer and was a nurse for over 42 years no more than ever realizes that 17 years of smoking coupled with lots of social drinking are two of the top 5 contributors to pancreatic cancer.

I dont want to turn 70 and find out becuase I made stupid choices as a young man shortened my life.  I already made a bunch of stupid choices as a kid and now at 47 I realized how smart my parents realy were.  I tend to listen a little better now and implement the knowledge shared with me from the more experienced.

Josh, our prayers are with you and hope all turns out good for you.

thanks KEA.....and everyone else.

i went to my docs and she didn't get the results from my heart reacorder thing but she did refer me to a cardiac specialist the middle of next month......and she told me to double my B.P. pills. other then that she said the EKG looked good, no enarged heart. but she said she's going to see what the specialist thinks and then from there give me a stress test, depending on what he says.

whats a stress test?    i picture a roomfull of people annoying the crap outta me timing how long till i snap ;D

They will probably put you on a tread mill with all kinds of monitoring equipment to measure your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.  Normally takes about 10-20 minutes.

what could be the problom then if i don't do good on one of them? cause i got a call today from the echo graph scan thing and they said it all looks good but i still gotta see the specialist. my doc don't think it's my heart but she said to have it looked at and then depending on that she'll give me a stress test....does that mean i stress out easy or is it my body stress out easy? and i spose that means more pills!
well things are allready looking better then what i first thought......

hey KEA you'r the one with that osaorange (sorry about the spelling) correct? if so my uncle is kinda new (year or two ) into bow making and i heard thats the best stuff. if so i'll have to talk to you about a price on some sticks.
