Sequoia table (s)
« on: October 10, 2008, 09:20:42 PM »
Had an offer to build two 4' x 7' tables, 3" thick out of Sequoia.  Each table top would consist of 3 16" wide boards, glewed up and 7" long.  At this point the buyer is not asking to have me build the legs for the two units.  I am not quite sure I have all of the material for the tables.  My possible bid is around $3,500 without the legs involved.

Any thoughts on the price or even taking on the job?

I guess it all depends on how hard it would be for them to find it somewhere else.

What kind of finish are they looking for?

$3500 seems high but if your the only game in town its probably cheap.

Did you mean $3500 or $350?  $3500 seems a bit high. Depends on the quality of the wood, but here's one way to look at it.
84bdf [4' x 7' x 3"] x $4 + $50 (for glue up) = $386 for just the top.

Nope, $3,500 is right, Steve.  There is much work in preping the masterial, surfacing, eding. spline mitor the joints, sandinging final afster glueing, edging corners and all.
