No Forward power on the mill
« on: December 11, 2008, 12:21:53 PM »
I had a custom cutting job this morning and after getting everything set up my forward control quite working.  Spent about an hour on the phone troubleshooting with WM and turns out, or at least they are very confident, I have a bad diode in a circuit board.

Minor fix but have to wait for the part and reschedule a day of cutting. What sucks is today was one of the few days of no wind and temps of 35F.  Would have been a great day to cut :(

Isn't that just the pits. A 50 cent part, and everything shuts down >:(
Are they sending you a diode or replacement board?
Does the diode look burnt on the board?
If they are sending you a new board at least replace the diode on the one you have
and have it as a spare.
Hope you're back to cuttin soon.

They are sending me a whole new back panel. It was a capaciter on a curcuit board and that single cucuit board is $130 but I could get a whole new back panel that had the board and several other components on it for $150.  Its a used panel but in perfect working order and full warranty so now I have several new spare parts ;D

The capaciter is part of the circuit board and you cant just change that out.  It does not look burnt but the board has an overload light that when lit up means the capaciter is bad.

New part came yesterday and got installed just a few minutes ago.  All fixed!  Way to go Wood Mizer Tech Support!

Those guys are the bomb aren't they?.  The two times I have called them, they seem real concerned about the down time and haul a** to get what you need right out.

Have you tried the WM ice blades?.  I see them adverstised and I think I'm going to order some.  We're well into the frozen log season around here and man it's brutal on my Simmonds, even with hardwood set.

I use the 9 degree in the winter and have had no problems with froze logs.  They have a new 7 degree that is suppose to be even better than the 9.  Deaper gullet to take out more sawdust.  They say it works better on wider cuts than the 9.

I talked to the WM blade tech yesterday about the 7, I think I'm going to give that one a try.  They have the 4 also but I don't know that I need that.  I'll get some and let you know how they go -

Those are the one I think I am going to switch to instead of the 9's.  I cut a lot of larger logs and need the extra gullet for more sawdust.
