Are you ready for weather?
« on: December 12, 2008, 11:07:48 PM »
If you read the Capitol Press, or if you are just ahead of most folks, you know that the only reliable weather forecasts come from Rufus La Lone.
While the commercial network pussies want to tell you today and tomorrow's forecast; Rufus La Lone makes you aware of the trends WEEKS in advance.
If you E-Mail Rufus and just ask, he will send you his forcasts every Monday and Friday.
I have known about the coming storm for weeks.

Thanks, Harry, I am ready.  We had three inches of snow this morning at 9:30.  However, it is the next few days that will be the most fun, sliding around.

Well, it will be in low 30s today.  Woke to another 2" of snow.  Yesterday's snow had ll but melted away.  I have 4 cords stacked by the house furnace and plenty at the kiln.  I will be trying to load the kiln, today.  Just came in from feeding the house furnace and it is beginning to mist a little.  Perhaps snow a little later.

I will be putting a small heater in the pumphouse, this morning, as well.  I hate feezing pipes.

That is always nice, Mike.  You got some heat earlier than you expected from the 2 year wood. ;D

I just did a run about on part of the farm and did the same thing, found some wood from last season.  I might be able to fine some of it tomorrow, if the snow does not get tooooo deep.   It is falling really hard and fast right now, at about 3:30 here on the left coast.  Accum is about three inches and building.

You got that right, Mike.
A number of years ago, I purchased a battery packet hat lantern, so I could fall a 140' Douglas Fir in the dark.   We had a foot-plus of snow on the ground, here on the tree farm.  What a rush.  I did not let anyone near the area, when I was doing the falling.  My two boys and wife Alice, were about ready to call the folks with the white jackets.

We are to have temps down to around 17 degrees tonight and tomorrow night, down to 13 degrees.

Now they say it will be down to 12, tomorow night.

I got meself up at 1:45 fed the stove.  I put a couple smaller Oak root ends in (without the dirt) and stuffed in smaller pieces of Maple and Fir around them.  That should hold well until about six or so. ;D

Somebody said it was so cold the Lawyers were going to have to stick their hands in their own pockets.

Warmer today but looks like more snow right now.  Maybe we'll get more than half an inch this time.

It has been snowing hard, here all day.  I am headed out to put chains in my Gator.  When I purchased the most recent (used) from one of my past students, he gave me some chains he made up.  The snow is getting deeper around here.  We have had at least 8" in the last couple days and are expected to get another four by morning.  We could be down to 15 degrees by Friday night and Saturday morning.

Nature’s Beauty

As I marveled at the beauty of this blanket of white,
A bobwhite Quail family took off in flight,

The starlight twinkled off the crystals that night,
And a rainbow of color reflected in the light.

So crisp and clear like a fine Spanish mint,
Leaves you knowing it must be heaven sent,

An enlighting residue from a bitter cold storm,
A marvel of nature, from moisture it was born.

As I watched the crystals dancing in the wind,
Glittering and shining as they twirl & spin.

So carefree and life like and yet;
How many have said it’s just snow.
