Slow page loading
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:37:52 AM »
Pages seem to be loading extremely slow this am.

Anyone else having the same experience?

Returning (back) to former page is fine; just waiting for loading of new page ???

What type of connection do you have?  I am on dial up and although its slow for me, it seems to be the same has it has been.

Sometimes clearing your cookies can help, depending on how you have them set up on page visits.

Slow here too and I'm on DSL.  Search finds the page with google ads displayed and then takes for ever to load the rest. Happens every time I open front page and then when I try and open "next" page or go back to previous page.  No indication of any activity with a turning globe, or active download over modem.  Almost like a pause (count ten) and then loads fine.

I removed the Bidvitiser banner.  Seemed to make a big difference on my end so it had to be bad if I can notice it on dial up.  :(

Are you noticing the slow down at a certain time of day?

Server has looked into it and the only thing that they could find that was taking time to load was the bidvitiser adds so I pulled them.

Turn on your pop up blocker and see if that makes a difference.

Who is your internet service through?  Large population on the same system can bog it down but not sure if thats what the problem is.

We cant find anything on our end, other than deleating the free banners and I rather not do that.

Please tell me you now see a significant improvement.

I ran an optimization of the data base and it seems to be a boat load faster on my dial up so I suspect your seeing an improvement as well.

Got this note from the server host.

If it's early (before 6 AM) the server is processing statistics, and doing backups. When it's backing up your website, your website will get slow.

That's pretty much a tradeoff between the safety/security of having backups/restore points, and not having anything when your site crashes.

The server you are on is not overloaded, and never has high loads.

I tried to get on the site a couple of hours ago and finally gave up after several tries.  I probably spent a couple of minutes waiting for the home page to load before I gave up.  The only thing that would display were the google adds at the top of the page.

When I decided to add this reply, it probably took 10 seconds for the "post reply" page to load.  I'm no computer guru, but if there is anything I can try that might help diagnose what is going on I'd sure be willing to try.  Just let me know.

Same here, the Google banner ads load fast, then it hangs and there is a message in the little strip in the bottom left that says "read adpage2.googlesyndication" or "transferring data from googleads.g.doubleclick.net".

Based on a similar problem on another board I use a lot, it's Google that's holding things up.

Kirk is on the road and will work on this over the weekend. I would fix it, but I am not a techy guy. ;D

I noticed it is a lot faster today, so I am guessing it is a server issue.

I pulled the banners and the adds to see if it made a difference and Its still slow.  I am waiting to hear back from the server to isolate the problem.  At least I know its not our banners causing it because with and without them its the same.
