An Icon is done
« on: March 18, 2009, 09:14:05 AM »
Yesterday at 6 in the morning 78 people that work at the Weyerhaeuser mill in Dallas, Oregon, closed on a permanent basis.  The employes were told as they came to work.  Just last February, the mill had closed down the swing shift.  They produce 200 million board feet of lumber per year.

The sad part is that this mill had been the first mill that was created for the basis of Willamette Industries, in 1906.  What a travisty, but part of the signs of the times.  I sure feel for those folks.

A lot of factors have lead to this:

1. Greed - grabbing the big bucks at home while ignoring foreign customers; Weyhauser's aggressive take over of Willamette (without the means to do so).

2. Public / Political support to activists - ignorance of the greater need to 'manage' a healthy forest.

Will there be bailout money for these guys and gals? .........NO

How many families will leave Dallas?

You know, Mike, it almost sounds and looks like the banking stuff, as well.  The idea of them setting up for some sort of gift getting for the big boys in the timber industry.
