The end result of the wood I cut and process
« on: June 18, 2010, 08:51:19 AM »

This is both a 'test'(to see if I could get a photo into the gallery, and then posted-whew, what a process) and a little 'showing off'!

This is the end result of the wood I search endlessly for, cut into slabs, process down into blanks, and then turn on my lathe.  Seems like an awful lot of work now that I type it down, but it really isn't...  In fact, I think it's pretty fun doing all of the stuff from the very start to the finished product.

Nice work.  Amazing what an almost rotten piece of wood can be made to look like.

Did you need my address for a christmas present?

I had a kid that would turn pens on the weekends and made enough to take care of his school expense!

Teachers, Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers etc all are posesive when it comes to their pens!  They pay a premium too ;D

Most of the pens I sell are for some kind of present.

The one above has a $120 price tag on it, and I'm hoping to get it and about 50 others sold in August at the craft show I'll be attending.  Yup, it's one of the higher end pens that I sell...most are in the $35 to $75 range.

308 Cartridge Pen is my best selling...but it has either rattlesnake or deer antler for the upper barrel.

OK, Got to see the pics of the 308 pen.

How about a 50 bmg pen?

Not sure about this program for compressing...pretty bad quality!
Still looking for something that works well, and doesn't take forever to work....

These are some pens I made some time back for a fella that was looking for some gifts to give his upper-end clients(he's a CPA in Montana).  These are all sold...sorry for the tease, but I haven't photo'd the newest order I'm working on for him.  Twenty-five(25) pens ordered!!  That is a huge sale for me!!

Anyway, sorry about the poor quality:
Black Cherry w/sapwood, Eastern Red Cedar Crotch, Black Cherry w/sapwood

How about a 50 bmg pen?

Not a very big seller for me...  And to tell the truth, if the right wood is used it's hard to even tell there is wood used(pretty small piece near the projectile).  And the weight of the pen is pretty extreme!  More then most want to carry or use.
Think I've only ever made one, and I ended up discounting it down to about the cost of the materials used just to move it.  Sure wouldn't do another one unless it was a prepaid order type of exchange......
