Newbie here
« on: December 20, 2010, 07:14:07 AM »
Howdy folks. Newbie here and have enjoyed looking through old posts and getting to know who folks are. I purchased a 2005 model Hud-Son Oscar 18 mill a few weeks ago and I am in the process of getting it back to sawing. It was missing a few things like the log dogs and needs new belts and greasing etc but runs good  and I am looking forward to using it. I found a dealer in West Virginia near where my family owns a small amount of property and have talked with him on the phone a few times. He seems to be very knowledgeable about my particular mill and has the parts I need to get the mill operational. Looking forward to learning from everyone on the board and hope at some time in the future I can contribute as well.

Hurricane is a long ways from Chesapeake. One of my sisters now lives in Quincy ,Ill . Besides sawing, what other work do you do?

Well I have to say you are the first person I've met with that occupation ! Sounds interesting. I work with 2 guys that are former professional firefighters. When you are around them everything is at one speed... wide open! It took me a while to get used to it but I can now eat lunch with them in about 7 seconds!

Carl,
I see you are in the Leesburg area. Perhaps I can invite myself over some time when the weather warms up a little to see you saw. I just have a small mill and am just getting started and this will just be a hobby for me but hopefully I can learn some great tips from the folks on here to help me be productive with my mill and who knows, maybe some day I will move up to a larger mill!

Hobbies can get out of hand and sawing can get addictive.

Sounds good! I have a busy January but maybe if the weather holds up I can get up there sometime in February or March. I'm trying to secure some logs and getting my mill and tools together.
