I think walnut trees are magnetic...they collect metal!!!

Hello everybody! I like Walnut. The Little Walnut is easily found in nurseries, garden stores and other plant dealers and distributors. It can be propagated by Bare Root, Container and Seed. It has a Slow ability to spread through seed production and the seedlings have Medium vigor. Note that cold stratification is not required for seed germination and the plant cannot survive exposure to temperatures below -3°F. Little Walnut has Medium tolerance to drought and restricted water conditions.

When i was a child my grandmother would drive nails in the pecans trees on our land. She said they neede the iron? Im wondering if poeple did that with other nut trees?

The branching pattern of walnut trees makes them attractive for tree houses & deer stands. When I suspect metal (such as fence wire hanging out of a log), I switch to a bi-metal band saw blade (http://www.norwoodsawmills.com/band-blades). They are expensive, but they do chew through nails and wire with no problem. They use them for breaking down pallets. Here's a walnut log with fence wire I milled. The grain of the wood sort of wraps around the metal, though I'll have to go to a wide drum sander to surface the boards.

Unfortunately, even this blade was no match for a 3/8" bolt!

If you just had a few more nails you could sell the wood for ebony.
