I had my taxidermist, his son-in-law, and Grandson down for our shotgun season this weekend and I would say over all it was a good year.
They took home two 8 points, a yearling doe , and a button buck.

I managed to hit this doe with my Mossberg 695 Bolt Action 12 Gauge at 110 yards. She tipped the scales at 170 pounds field dressed!

Got this doe this afternoon during our muzzle loader season. 170lbs on the hoof. Not quite the doe I got before but still a nice doe for the freezer................oh, forgot, have to go buy a new freezer as the chest freezer is slam full.
Preparing for the tough times to come!

We are going to can about 40 quarts of chilli and 40 quarts of my deer stew!
Jerkey is on the list as well!

Today we are going to grind up the last one I got and make Chili. We hope to can about 50 quarts of it!
The one I just got will be used for deer stew and again we hope to put up 50 quarts.

Looks like 22 quarts of chili out of the last deer and about 5lbs of jerkey (dry). Should get about the same from the most recent deer so I think we are on track for 40-50 quarts of chili.
I already have the stew meet cut up and ready to make the stew. Should finish that after I get back from TX.

We will finish the last three jars today for a total of 24 quarts of chili, 5lbs of jerkey and the backstraps are marinating for dinner Thursday :)
One more deer still hanging in the cold to do after my TX hunt. Cant do it now as its FROZEN like a rock :o
Then, with a little good old gold strike luck, we have our last three days of deer season where I hope to finish off the year with an even number!

i planted whitetail clover 8 or 9 years ago & replanted it 3 years ago. as it only last 5 years.
prior to this a 6 point was a big deer here ,scince the food plots we have gotten one 13 pointer & a bunch of 8 pointers but they dont get the body mass here as the main diet is acorns & fescue
this summer i planted 2 more areas in Turnips, Buck Oats & wheat the turnups seem to be the only item that grew & they did well
our family farm is 155 acres & i have a little less than 2 acres in food plots

Give the turnips a few years and the deer will come by the dozens. Once they get use to them being there it will be like the called all their friends for dinner!

How did the hog hunting go??? We waved to Kansas when we passed. Had an extra burger at Moonshine for you. Also had a pop down by the river at MVP. Ever been there? Quite a dive err I mean place. ;D
Terry gave us the full tour including dinner at a lake in a state park and a trip to Terre Haute.

THe hog hunting sucked although the deer hunting was good.
Never been to the MVP. Where is it at?
Was the state park resteraunt right on the lake? My wife and I have been meaning to go there but havent yet.

MVP was south and west of Moonshine I believe. The restaurant at the State Park was right on the lake. Very good food and extremely reasonable. Sunday dinner for three $40.00+/- with pop, coffee, two desserts and tip.
