Title: Old Mill Down The Road
Post by: The WoodButcher on February 03, 2008, 05:35:10 PM
:D Hey All, I was out plunder'n today and came accross this old mill about 5 miles from the house   I have heard about it but today was the first time I really saw it. I like it  :D  This guy is set up really nice. Log table is cool. I didn't have a tape measure but it looked like it would saw about 25 maybe 30' and thats track behind the blade. Very clean operation.  8)

Very clean, indeed.  I wish mine was that clean, but hten I would not be sawing any lumber.

It is set up pretty nice but considering there are no belts installed it makes you wonder if its still in operation or not. The drive shaft is missing from the drive wheel so not sure if he might use a tractor pto on that or if the engine that used to run the mill is gone.  Looks more like a very well preserved piece of history, other than its got a lot of fresh sawdust around it.

 Back a tractor up to it, hook up the pto and start sawing. The drive shaft is there, it's folded to the right and up. The tire you see there is the drive tire, the only other belt is for the chain drag. The guy uses it every now and then, not too often though, it was his Dads. It's set up at the entrance of the steeple chase track in Waxhaw NC.  8)

I figured the tractor option would run the blade but without the belts how does the carriage move?

Hey Buzz Sawyer, The mill in these pictures is real, not imaginary,  ;D . I haven't even seen your mill, let alone a bigger pile of sawdust.  ;D ;D ;D
