Hi All, I just got a call from a teacher, he wants some walnut turning blanks for his students. I told him I had what he was looking for and if he wanted to, he could bring the whole class here to see it being sawn. He loved the idea and is setting it up as I speak. I think this is very cool. Any ideas on what I should try to show them would be great?

SAFETY! 

We have been doing that for our school for a couple years and the one thing that is so hard to do is keep the kids away from the mill when running it.  We all know they are very safe but with lawsuits and lawyers being the way they are, I would suggest to keep them way back if your going to demonstrate any sawing.  A simple piece of sawdust in the eye can lead to a very expensive legal matter, even if there was no damage to the eye.

Amen KEA, I am going to rope off a place where they can sit on some of my cedar benches to watch. I need a lawsuit, like I need a butt whoopin with a golf club. I will police this gig very closely.

WB, I always have a few dozen pairs of safety glasses when rug rats show up here for a tour and such.
