Had some fun yesterday!
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:36:45 AM »
The pile has grown, and will continue to grow some more today....

Still in the Sweetgum stems. Tackled two more yesterday, the I know the photo only shows one , but there were two trees in the photo...one laying on top of the other.  Not what I like when cutting, but sometimes thing just happen that way.

Here's what it looked like when I arrived after the turners meeting in Little Rock.  Think it was somewhere around 2:45pm-ish?

And at around 6:15pm-ish I decided to call it a day.

And finally the 'stack'!  It is growing....and I'll get most of it moved today to a much better location.....my yard.  I still have a few limbs, and some more stuff 'hidden' under the grass that I'll be dragging out this morning.  And then I'll be moving over to the Cherry stems!!

Just wanted to be sure that everyone knows I actually do get to mill stuff too!

This was two of the upper sections of trunk from that tree pictured above.  Cut the to just under 7/8", and eventually these will become rocker/gliders....just got to dry them awhile.

Careful  Scot.  Sawing slabs can be addictive.

Nice looking wood.

Is that spalting on the end of the log?

Too late for that warning!

There is some spalting on some of the logs already, the weather here is very good for the spalting process(whether we want it or not).

What is spalting?

I had no idea that sweet gum was that pretty!

LOL I actually went and looked it up!  (yay me!)

Read in another post here that someone was spalting on purpose...covering with sawdust.  Sounds cool, too!

And SDB...you got any pictures of them rockers?  Sure would love to see the finished product!

Those rockers will be made this coming spring, the wood was just cut and needs a little time for air drying.  It'll make for some nice springtime projects anyway.....you know, get me motivated into doing something after that white stuff has been on the ground!

Hmmm...white stuff on the ground.  I miss that sooo much sometimes.   :-\  Lived 18 yrs in Alaska, spent the last 22 yrs here in E. Texas.  Every now and again the Lord blesses us with some snow.  It's been getting chilly here...in fact I'm waiting on the fire to get going in my wood stove so I can make some biscuits and gravy for the family's breakfast.  One of the benefits of having the sawmill...never run out of stove wood!   ;D

Well....Scott, when ya get 'em made, I sure would love to see a picture of them.  I'm trying to talk Willie into cutting some sweet gum now.  Never knew the wood was so purdy!

You should sell that slab frog as an art. Or maybe open up an art gallery beginning with just one slab frog. You might get some dollars from the county for your art profession. This could be your future

Me, too.  If Willie sees me eyein' the slab pile...he starts shaking his head 'no'.  I pretend to ignore him and start diggin' anyway.  I've got quite a pile waiting for me.  Now, y'all just have to teach me how to get the time to fool with what I've got piled up.
