Holly wood
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:03:22 PM »
I was given some holly from a tree in Grandmas front yard.  About 12" on the stump, 8" at 6 feet.   It was a big holly for this country.  The only problem is they cut it into fire wood chunks. (I almost screamed at my sister in-law).  I got three pieces and the longest piece is about 24" long.  So far I have cut the chunks in half through the heart center and painted the ends.

What sizes should I cut the wood?  5/8, 3/4", 1".  turning squares or what?  I've got the wood sold for intarsa stock if I want to go that way.

Any suggestions?

Ask the buyer what their preference would be, then cut.

I cut it 7/8" on a table saw but I think I have some fancy fire wood.  I think the wood sat too long before being cut.  It's not white like it should be.
