Guess it's about time to say hello
« on: September 29, 2012, 04:57:53 PM »
Been lurking around here off and on for a while, guess it's time to say hello. I'm in east Texas, north of Houston an hour or so.
I have a Logmaster mill with a few mods, saw for my on woodworking addiction that my paying job keeps getting in the way of.  Ya'll mind some more company?

Welcome to the club Woodwalker!  Are you around the Woodlands?

I got my sawmill bug because of my woodworking addiction and now it gets in the way of my woodworking!

Kirk, I'm north of The Woodlands a ways. Another 40 miles or so. I worked out of one of our service centers there for about five years. The traffic getting out of there was a mess.
I was born and raised out here in the middle of the Sam Houston National Forest. I've got Govt. land on two sides of me.

Welcome to our little bunch of fellow sawdust makers.  What kind of wood working do you do?  I dabble in garden furniture making, pen turning, selling a few boards and what ever the wife wants built.

My woodworking is kind of a broad subject. I like turning the best. That ranges from pens, bowls and the like to a couple of rather large "bowls". I made a faceplate adapter and outboard turned a couple of small sinks in pieces of Longleaf Pine that was 6"X18"X42". That was a lot different than a slim line pen.
Ongoing project right now is finishing out a weekend package on our horse trailer. I've done a V-board out of some of the Longleaf for the wall covering and cabinets. This is also where the sink went. I've got some Holly I need to re-saw for the ceiling cover.
I do some flat work, benches, boxes, shelves, etc. Can't say it's woodwork, but there are  several sheds, barns, houses and a few re-model's back down the road.

I'll get some pictures up. May take a while.
East Bernard/Eagle Lake = Goose Hunting. Eagle Lake is advertized as the "goose hunting capital of the world". Don't know if that's  true, but I do know there are thousands of birds down there.

I got a buddy up north of Little Rock that slays the geese and ducks on the flats every year.  MILLIONS of birds!  I have never seen so many water fowl in my life as I did down there last year.
