Hi folks,
My name is Dave Custer! I live in Columbia Kentucky which is south central.
I am 22 years old.
I am a full-time, self-employed blacksmith. I do a mix of decorative functional interior and exterior hardware, some larger commissions like furniture and stuff, and I make a lot of tools for other blacksmiths and for farriers. It keeps me busy!
I bought a Timber mule bandsaw a little over a year ago. I know next to nothing about sawmills. It can cut 32-inch diameter by 16-foot long logs. It has a 22hp Subaru motor, electric start, electric winch, and water coolant system. It's one of the ones you have to push though the log, and you have to load and maneuver logs manual as well.
It's a good machine and we love it. My dad and I cut all of the lumber for an addition and porch on our house and hopefully I'll use it to cut lumber for my own places some day.
I also use it to cut unique wood slabs for table tops, and also for hammer and axe handles for tools I make in my shop.
I also enjoy doing fiberglass sailboat repair and dream of building a wooden boat sometime in the future. I have a 1960's sailboat and cut all new red-cedar deck planks for it, with my sawmill.
I'll try to get some pictures for you guys, 'cause I know forum people on the other side of the screen always love pictures!
Good to be here gents! I hope to learn lots!
Thanks,
Dave Custer
