How Bout a hobby mill section?
« on: January 03, 2018, 08:41:32 AM »
So of all the forums I've been to, I've found no "hobby mill" section. I'm thinking for me and others like me with (or getting) a small personal, known as a hobby mill I guess, mill, it would be nice to talk with and compare ideas with others in the same boat. While I like the suggestions and stuff from all the "big mill" guys, a lot of it doesn't pertain to what I'm looking to do. What I'm looking at doesn't have auto loaders, hydraulics and all that stuff so we could compare how we get logs up on the mill, best way to roll logs while they are on the mill, stuff like that. Would still be nice if you commercial guys would pitch in and help us and give us ideas... but remember, not all of us aspire to get big, and make money off our mills. There might be others that like me want to stay small, I am retired and have no intention of changing that! ;D

So just a thought from a new little hobby guy! ;)

I have a blind friend who really wanted to saw logs...and it was simply too dangerous to be around my mill I owned at the time, a Meadows #1 with a 56 inch blade and power receder and turner.

So, I looked around and found the company in Arkansas, Mr. Sawmill, http://www.mistersawmill.com/ and they converted a small "hobby mill", I would call it, to 5hp electric. Will do an 18 inch diameter by 8 foot long log, and with a simple extension, length would be as long as you could handle.

That is what I would call a true "hobby mill", but like small machine tools and such, they can do the same stuff....just takes longer and of course, you are limited.

Hobby milling to me would be any mill that isn't a production mill....because if you are not making a living doing this, then it is a hobby.

LOL!  Oh, the joy of not knowing how to fix database issue!

If you noticed the site down for a short stint it was because of our attempt to add a Hobby Mill category!

We had to make an upgrade to the SMF software but apparently, that failed and had to be fixed by the server company.  Now that that issue is fixed we have one more database upgrade to figure out so that we can add the Hobby Mill category!

Hang in there, you get what you pay for LOL

In fact Jay, we could have people send us their woodworking pieces of art that we could sell in an auction to raise money.  Keep in mind we will keep the really cool stuff for ourselves and never sell it.  Our homes need to be decorated with really cool stuff from all over the world.   LOL

You know, when you guys put it like like that, it makes it even more disgusting.

Oh, and let's not forget about building a big new pole barn and calling it the forum's meeting place.

And the antique truck that is the forum's.  Apparently it's everybody's!

The guy is a friggin' joke.  And a damn liar.  It's a shame so many people are blinded or don't care.

Had to laugh after seeing the recent post about yet ANOTHER server update because of all the massive traffic.  Next will be the plea for money.  I guess when the lies work, keep using them.
