The Hidden Circle Mill of Mass!

Made it out to Franks place in Franklin, MA.  Began to wonder when I drove through the countryside with all the giant homes and new neighborhoods. Just didn't vision a sawmill in that area.

Turns out Frank has been their the longest and the city move to him! LOL 

A few pics of his Circle Mill.  Wish we had more time to visit but we had to boogie back to the Communist State of Illinois but only after passing back through the Peoples Republic of New Jersy!

It is always interesting to see the basics of what used to be a normal life in the rural parts of our country and how "civilization" encroaches upon it.  Your description of the houses and the city moving to him are prime examples.

Alas I live in a yuppie stroonfield 25 miles SW of Boston, I'm tolerated and considered somewhat of a period piece. My tractors and hay baler are at least 50 years old. You may be surprised how many old mills are lurking in the pucker brush. A few years ago I could walk to three from my house. Frank C.

Yes, looks very tidy.  Appears to be tucked away and a nice place to just sit-n-ponder amongst the pines.

Nuthin wrong with old iron, Frank.  I too, prefer the older machinery and regularly use machinery as early as the late 40's for farm work.  I like the simplicity, the sound and the "feel" of old iron.  Might lack Heat/AC, but I always preferred to be in the open air.

I also enjoy working on it, unlike the newer crap they pass off as farm equipment now-a-days.   :-\  Much easier to use a wooden dowel to track down/troubleshoot a suspicious noise than "guess" that the laptop is right saying a component is faulty... which is rarely is in my experience.

Nice setup and cozy setting.  Thanks Kirk for taking the time and Frank for allowing Kirk to share.  :)

With the suburbs moving in, planning boards and changing expectations of the area
I would spool that mill up every chance I could whether there was lumber to saw or not.

Exercising your rights regularly and openly are the best ways to protect and keep them.
