24' refer trailer

Well, I am looking at acquiring another 24' refer trailer for a kiln unit.  It may take me some time, as I am a bit cheap and picky for the condition, and all.  I will start with putting a request on Craig's List and see what happens

If I had a place snuggled in the woods I would do the same but since its such an eye sore the kiln will be part of one of the barns.

I know a guy in the town next to me that is a firewood dealer, he made one out of one of those sea cargo boxes.  He's got special made firewood boxes that fit inside with a forklift, does up about 10 cords in no time.  He said it quickly paid for itself with the increased price for dried wood he could command, especially with the oil prices!

JP, I have also thought of doing just that, kiln drying firewood.  I have never had the chance to do that process, as the lumnber has always taken first place for customers needs.  The second unit could well be used for that purpose.  Thanks for the reminder.

This guy was really happy with the results, his customer base jumped because by mid fall around here, all of the dry wood is gone and customers have to take green.  He was able to have supply of dry all winter long and the demand was incredible.

I believe the going rate for green was hovering around $180 per cord and he was at $225 for his kiln dried.  With last year's oil prices, he had more customers than he wanted, he said he was at about 800 cords for the year.

I know for sure I have to get a second trailer.  For firewood, I would not need to get a refer trailer, just a dry van unit.

so frank what are the insulated trailers going for
i found a 28' that the refer unit still works for $3500. seemed high for my applaction what do you think

Take it!

Use the refer to cool a deer storage shed and charge $5 a day for cold storage.  If I could find a cheap refer I would do just that!

I paid $1,000 for the first unit.  I have found a 41' sea going refer container for #1,500 and just acquired 3 hot water heat exchangers for a very good price.
