Here it is , in Oregon a tree like this gets this size in 50 years(Iit would take a tree where I live  hundreds of years!!) ……………now where I come from the only thing that grows that fast are horse weeds!!!!

Frank decided that it would be fun to chop weeds today ….and maybe mill 4-5 oak logs and do a couple thousand feet of tongue and groove floring….all we had to do to be allowed to participate  was  give him a brass door knocker and a dead rat to be able to help(Tom Sawyer refrence)

Here is another local weed…errrrrrrrrrr tree…….. you know what I mean

Here the original AXE MAN leads the way to the carnage……

Let the mayhem begin…. I didn’t see a husky saw anywhere on the place????
BUT Frank dug right in with his stihl

Not to be out done KEA jumped right in……….

Once Buzz Sawyer smelled fresh wood chips he dove in with vengance to the mighty sprout

After all our efforts it still wanted to stay in one piece…..not really surprising don’t they always????

So it was decided to split the log with the forks on the front loader

Finally she popped!!!

This ¼ must have weighed at least 3 grand from the looks of franks front tires

Off to the  log bunks to be cut down to interior paneling

Before the Sequoia we cut up this oak

 MD in action

Frank bearing down on another

I have NEVER seen a slab pile like this one…….most of these are at least 1 foot thick….Frank sell custom mantles and such things out of these.

I talked with Buzz last night.  He is working on the pics.  With limited internet connection he was only able to post the descriptions and will post the pics as soon as possible.

That big one I am reaching up on if I recall correctly was 11 feet across.  My standing reach is about 9 feet but that log had to be sunk in the groun a foot.

As neat as that stuff was I think I would have to let them grow!  Its truly amazing to see how big they are and only 50 years old.

Frank, can you get us some seeds for those things?  I have a couple realy good wet areas I would like to try to plant them.

I can do better than the seeds, I can get some seedilings. However, they do not like really wewt feet.  As to the sprout=ing, only the WEst Coast Redwood sprouts, not the Sequoia.

The seedlings will not be available again until this Fall.
How many are you wanting?  I will need to put in an order in advance.

Buzz, I am very impressed with the pictures you took/  Thank you for so aptly describing what is happening.  Thank you both for a fine days work and swet.  When Kirk and yourself jumped up on that log, I about lost my cookies in laughter and real concern for your safety.  I know you both are very safety conscieous and all but never-the-less, I had never really seen either of you in real action before and was quite concerned.  You both took the the task like a duck to water or a logger to the woods.

Yep,
We wrangle a few logs back here...just not generally over 4 feet in diameter.....but we split em from time to time in the same fashion.

It was a REAL pleasure meeting Alice you and the ST . Bernard It was a day I will long remember.....I can guarantee you that if we lived a tad closer there would be some tradin going on ...cause we have very similair taste in seasoned irion....

I have worked in the woods cutting logs as well as trimming trees since about 20 years ago....so  probably rate as log wrangler :D :D

I think Buzz had the movie Titantic on the brain :o

This was on the ferry west of Seattle that we took to get back to the north side of Seattle to avoid all the 5pm traffic.  Worked out great and saved us a load of time.

The log that Buzz is standing beside is 11 1/2 feet wide.  We had to haul the log on a lowboy to get it here.  We chained the small end and lifted with a self loader, only hight enough to back the trailer under and still had about ten feet over the end, as we moved it from town to the Tree Farm.  Total distance was just at 6 miles.

Was that cod on the 6 x 6 as well?  Nice to see the pictures up and all.
I just got a call a couple days ago to pickup 25 such trees with a but diameter of 6 to 7 feet, for free.   I have to find the space to put them.  The area where you see Buzz standing is filled 25' high and 150' long with 40' Douglas Fir with as average dbh of 30".

I will try this again.  I got a call a few days ago about 10 or 12 Sequoia that have a butt span from 6' to 8' and about 60' tall.   They will be free for the taking.  That is were the issue is for me, right now.  I am concerned about getting a $1,000 tied up in hauling, until ZI am able to market the lumber.  I guess is it all in the marketing.

Any suggestions on what I should do, all of you wise sages?

Cant sell what you dont have!  ;D  Stock pile, stock pile, stock pile!

I dont know what the stuff is worth but I suspect the $1000 for hauling it is a drop in the bucket to what its worth as flooring, which you can bang out pretty quick.

Flooring is an idea, but I have sold more for paneling and ceiling covering, than anything.  Perpaps that is the avenue I should persue, as well as tree recovery from being used for firewood or chips for hog fuel.
