Another new guy
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:12:09 PM »
Howdy all!

Found this forum while enroute to looking up something else. Pretty cool site!

I'm in the process of building my first bandmill, mostly from plans from Gary at Linn Lumber. His plans are really decent and complete, especially compared to most out there. He's a great guy to deal with too, always ready to answer questions and help any way he can.

While I'm new to this forum, I'm not new to sawmills. Worked in one in New Hampshire for a fairly long time as the fabricator/welder, and built my own chainsaw mill from plans I got from Pro-cut, (Alan is another great guy to deal with). Built a place in Maine with that mill, brought it out to Michigan with me when I moved and found out that hardwoods are a real challenge for a chainsaw mill, hence my building a band mill now!  ::)

I hope I can add something useful here, but more than likely I'll get more than I'm able to give!

Oh, the BANDMILL! I see. Well, I'm in Massachusetts right now and the mill is in Michigan, so it'll hafta wait 'til I get back home. But I WILL take a few pics and post 'em up when I get back. I'll look on my computer here and see if, by chance, I have any too. I haven't been too diligent about taking any as I've been building.

Welcome a board.  You got yourself a good person to get you plans from, in Gary.  As the crow flys, he is about 6o miles from me.

Yeah, I'd like to meet him someday, but that's not likely since I live in Michigan. Unless the National Fire Academy decides to send me out there to teach something, I can't think of any reason I'd be out that way.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

I don't recall a Kirk right off the top of m y head, but that don't mean much. I'm awful with names. Now Kirby I know. And Dr D. And a lot others whose names escape me. (I hate gettin' old!)

There IS one guy out your way that I know tho, Don Porth.
