Haul'n Pine

Hi all, Just started a job fetching some pine logs. We took the forklift to this job. Makes for very ez loading, but the unloading is kinda tough. We are backing up to different trees down the driveway, hook a few, drag'em off, pull up hook to another tree, drag a few off and so on. Once I get the forklift back I can fetch'em and bring'em to the mill. These are good logs but I've got to take everything, tops only no limbs. Most of these logs are 20'L. There are a few short ones though. I think I'm gonna make 6X post with them. Stuff thats hard to find if ya know what I mean. Suggestions welcome. This trailer beats the daylights out of mine, but it's not the trailer for this kinda work.

  Hauled more pine today. That forklift ROCKS!!!    This was kinda hairy because we had to run these logs down hill. I blew a hole through the tip of the  forks with a torch so I could put a hitchball on when I got the forklift. It helps when going down a slope, the hitch ball acts as a chalk to keep the log from rolling off the forks. Not the safest way but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. There were power lines everywhere, we were very careful, too good of a find to ruin it like that. The mast on the forklift sticks up pretty hight and there were some hills in the yard that made it tight under some of the lines.

Nice job, WB in getting through  the maze of lines and all.  Could you have backed down the hill with the log on the folklift?  I often do that with my tractor and loader with the forks on and heavy loads.  It makes of a much more comfortable haul.

No Frank, There wasn't quite enough room to get turned around with 20 footers. I didn't want to get on that slope sideways with a log. It would probably have been ok, but I just didn't want to risk it. We had enough trouble with that trailer that I sure didn't want to add any more to it. We got a flat with the trailer right after take off and I had to walk back, get the forklift and go unload the trailer take the tire off and then go shuck out a bunch of $$$$ for a tire and rim. Bad day in blackrock. I try to count it all Blessing.

I know what you mean, WB.  Some days are diamonds and some days are stones, with whole truckloads of basalt.

Looks like you are getting full use of your RT forklift....I bet you wondered what you did without it all these years.

hay frank how do you load  or move that giant trunk in the picture it must be 10' across

MIke, I will be cutting into quarters or eighths, to put on my mill.   I have also been thinking of getting SteveM here with his Lucus and saw the thing up.  Perhaps next Summer.
