I kind of wanted to keep some topics off the forum....since you just never know, but this is about over the top:

HOMELAND INSECURITY
Bipartisan team stunned by 'extremism' allegations
'Veterans, families should not be viewed as a threat'

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich.

Members of both sides of the aisle in Congress are expressing outrage and seeking an investigation into a new Department of Homeland Security report on "extremism" that targets U.S. military veterans, opponents of abortion and supporters of other conservative causes. U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich. was horrified at what he described as a "shoddy, unsubstantiated" document that was delivered to law enforcement across the nation.

"I am concerned at what appears to be a shoddy, unsubstantiated, and potentially politicized work product that has been disseminated to the Intelligence Community, and law enforcement as a finished intelligence product," he wrote to DHS chief Janet Napolitano. "The report appears at best sloppy and unprofessional and at worst a representation of political bias being passed off as intelligence analysis by DHS."

According to the Washington Times, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said he was "dumbfounded" that the report was, in fact, released.

"This report appears to raise significant issues involving the privacy and civil liberties of many Americans – including war veterans," Thompson told Napolitano in a letter.

"As I am certain you agree, freedom of association and freedom of speech are guaranteed to all Americans – whether a person's beliefs, whatever their political orientation, are 'extremist' or not," Thompson said.

He said he was disappointed and surprised the report would be issued. And he demanded to know what types of further activities DHS had planned regarding the issue.

The federal agency's report is called "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

It already has generated a lawsuit by talk radio host Michael Savage.

As WND reported, a public-interest legal group submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the DHS demanding to know why it calls Americans who support the 2nd Amendment and dislike lax immigration "extremists."

Now Hoekstra, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, is offering his criticism and demanding to know why, as ranking member of the committee, "which is responsible for authorizing funding for this office," he was not given a copy of the report but had to obtain it from open sources on the Internet.

"I would appreciate clarifications as to why this report was not provided to the committee and an understanding of what other reports DHS may be failing to provide to the committee," he wrote.

He also wanted some clarifications:
"The report purports to analyze 'rightwing extremism' without defining the term or specifying by name a single group that falls into this category," he said. "According to the imprecise analysis contained in the report, 'rightwing extremists' could include groups dedicated to opposing abortion or illegal immigration as well as those who may not agree with the new administration's 'perceived' stance on several issues including illegal immigration and restrictions on firearm ownership.

"On their face, these statements may appear to cast legitimate viewpoints – in fact some viewpoints that recently constituted administration policy – in a suspicious light. Without any specific reporting to support such vague statements it is easy to see how they are offensive to many people," he wrote.

A spokesman for the federal agency told WND today that the DHS would refuse to identify the actual authors of the report. The agency also would not comment on any procedures or actions it may take in response to the controversy over the report.

But to the Associated Press, a DHS official confirmed there were concerns by the agency's office of civil rights about some of the language in the report.

It was issued anyway, the agency said.
Napolitano earlier described the charges in the report as assessments, "not an accusation."

Hoekstra called on the ombudsman for the office of director of National Intelligence to investigate the report itself.

"Our nation's veterans and hardworking families that may be facing tough times should not be viewed as a threat and neither should citizens who oppose out-of-control federal spending and tax hikes," he wrote.

The congressman, who has sponsored a constitutional amendment to protect the rights of parents to raise their children, also was disappointed by the report's assertion without substantiation that unemployed parents may foster "rightwing extremist" beliefs in their children.

"Beyond apologizing for its obviously offensive references, the administration needs to get to the bottom of how and why a report like this was written, and put standards in place to keep it from happening again," Hoekstra said.

"I would also appreciate an explanation of the assertion, which is somehow tied to 'rightwing extremists,' that there is a 'perception' that illegal immigrants were taking away jobs from Americans in the 1990s because they were willing to work for lower wages," the congressman wrote.

"Regardless of one's view on immigration policy matters, it cannot be seriously disputed that the protection of the American workforce is one of the driving considerations for the current structure of U.S. immigration law. For DHS, which is charged with administering the immigration laws, to apparently not understand this core principle is shocking," he added.

"When may we expect the office to start consistently producing quality intelligence products?" he wondered.
Savage teamed up with the Thomas More Law Center of Ann Arbor, Mich., to file a lawsuit against Napolitano over the report.

"It is a civil rights action brought under the First and Fifth Amendments to the United States Constitution, challenging the policy, practice, and custom of the United States Government that targets for disfavored treatment those individuals and groups that are considered to be 'rightwing extremists,'" the complaint said.

According to the federal government, characteristics of members of the suspect group of people include those who:

    * Oppose restrictions on firearms

    * Oppose lax immigration

    * Oppose the policies of President Obama regarding immigration, citizenship and the expansion of social programs

    * Oppose continuation of free trade agreements

    * Oppose same-sex marriage

    * Has paraonia of foreign regimes

    * Fear Communist regimes

    * Oppose one world government

    * Bemoan the decline of U.S. stature in the world

    * Is upset with the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs to China and India

The case seeks a declaration that the DHS policy violates the First and Fifth Amendments, a court order permanently enjoining the policy and its application to the plaintiffs' speech and other activities, and the award of reasonable attorney's fees and costs.

How does anyone feel? Like we need to turn in our guns, and maybe report to the DHS for prosecution?  >:( The list above describes me pretty well.

I believe they know exactly what they are doing.  We are being "bated".  They are systematically creating the very extremists they talk about.  What better way to push the socialist agenda than to have people who rise up in defense of our Constitution to only be shot down by a "told-you-so" administration.

I cant even begin to express my outrage over this and rest assured locally, shit is hitting the fan over it.  65% of our community are veterans and the meetings are starting.  The up-rise of disgust has grown legs and either this government stops the out of control spending or they are going to see a movement in this country like no other in history.  >:(

They wont want you to turn in your guns.  They know that will lead to major blood shed.  They will just legislate them out and when you get caught with one your a criminal and will go to jail.

I see the anger every day every where I go and on every call we have.  People of this nation are pissed, and rightfully so.

It has to stop and if a few good men do nothing, they will win.

The latest from the scum.

Still struggling to explain her department’s report that veterans could targeted by extremists groups looking for recruits, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on Sunday that she regretted “in that in the politicization of everything that happens in Washington D.C., some took offense.”

The report, she said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” was saying, “We have a threat of terrorism within our own shores, and one of the groups being targeted to see if they will be aligned with that are some of our veterans.”

“In retrospect,” she told host John King, who pressed her on the issue, “anything could be written differently to prevent politicizations.”

“The report is not saying that veterans are extremists, far from it.” Napolitano said. “What it is saying is returning veterans are targets of right-wing extremist groups that are trying to recruit those to commit violent acts within the country.”

To prevent that, she said the Obama administration “wants to work with returning vets to make sure they’ve got health care, education opportunities, job opportunities…so they do not become a target of these extremists groups.”

I resigned myself a long time ago as being "one of those".

The only real shocking thing is that The Powers That Be published the list. (I'm sure there were other catagories they wanted to add).  They have drawn the line in the sand that all can see.  All they're trying to do now is damage control.  Now we know where we stand.  I say stand tall.

TPTB think the tea parties were all about taxes.  I went and saw a diverse group of groups.  Not radicals, not violent people. Moms and pops, grandbabies and grandpaws.  Not dope smoking long haired hippies.  Anti abortion, anti taxing, anti 2nd amendment infringements, anti Fed Reserve, pro Constitution which is anti goverment as currently run.  Lots of anti groups for sure.  What they are about is a government that's totally out of control.  99% of the people told them NO on the first bailout and they still passed it.  They won't live up to the supreme law of the land (the constitution) and don't follow the laws they themselves have passed (immigration for one and income taxes for Democrats for another).  They even try and pass laws that they know are illegal (DC getting representation in congress).  And if you want the laws inforced you are labled as an extremist, part of the far right, Christian zealot, or terrorist threat.
Does anybody realize that half of the wage earners in this country don't pay federal income taxes but get a tax refunds (earned income credit)?  So figure out how they are going to vote.

I'd give the government 10% of my income in a heart beat if it would solve the problem but it wouldn't.  Government would consider it a windfall and find some place to spend it.

The President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC  20500

 Dear Mr. President,
You don't speak for me.

When you go to Europe and say that Americans are "arrogant, dismissive and derisive" of our allies, you don't speak for me.  When you pander to foreign leaders, presuming to speak on behalf of all Americans, apologizing for the actions of President Bush, you don't speak for me.  When you desperately try to surrender to the French and the Germans, the Russians and the Saudis, and even our great friends in the UK., just for the sake of maintaining your "Messiah" image, you don't speak for me.

You and your wife may not be proud of America, but I am, sir.

The Europeans seem to have forgotten who saved their collective asses in World War II, but I haven't.  I haven't forgotten the tens of thousands of American fighting men who spilled their blood all across Europe to stop a murderous psychopath and his rampaging army.  And I haven't forgotten the tens of thousands more who served in theater after that war, when the threat of Soviet advance through the Fulda Gap was ever present.  I haven't forgotten, because I was there, for a time, anyway.  I saw the obscenity of the Berlin Wall.  I saw what happened to people who tried to escape communist Germany by climbing it, or trying to navigate the surrounding mine fields.  I occasionally patrolled that border, mirroring Soviet or Czech patrols.  And I remember watching on TV, crying as the wall was finally torn down.

I love Germany and England (France, not so much) and was ready to put my life on the line to defend them. So were the men I served with.  Many Americans continue to serve across Europe in the military uniform of the United States, more willing, apparently, than many Europeans themselves, to preserve the freedom there that we have already paid for with our blood.  I spent my money all over Europe, helping those economies flourish and grow, as did many other American servicemen and women who lived and served there.  My only thanks was a very small paycheck, some wonderful memories and the knowledge that I was doing something worthwhile that I could be proud of for the rest of my life.  I was, until today.

And then some pandering politician comes along and apologizes for all of that. You never served your country in military uniform, sir, so you wouldn't know how positively insulting that is.  In fact, you've never done anything for this country but run for office.  You won the election and still you're running a campaign instead of acting like the leader of our great nation.  And I don't like it one bit.
I want peace.  I want it for my family, for my friends and for my country.  I've earned it and will continue to do so until the day I die.  I want peace with Russia and China, even Iran and North Korea, if it were somehow possible.  I want there to be a free exchange of ideas and trade goods and tourism between all of our nations.

But the difference between you and I, sir, is that I would never sell out my country to gain their applause.  Maybe you think you're earning their respect and admiration by being weak and apologetic, but I know better.  The only thing you did was weaken my country.  And I won't forget it.

I am proud of my country and not even the President of the United States can take that away from me.

Sir, you must stop bankrupting my country and taking it down a road to Socialism.  You and the Democrats are tearing this country apart.

Regards,
Theo L. Peebles

Copy:Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
          Senator John Cornyn
          Senator Harry Reed
          Representative Kay Granger
          Representative John Boehner

The only change I would make to this letter is the last sentance.  It should read: You and both parties in Congress are tearing this country apart.

Turns out our President has done a complete 180 degree flip-flop on prosections to those who used torture techniques that were aproved.

He was insistant, as were two of his administraiton members last week that they would not pursue any prosecutions yet today he has flipped and stated that some may in fact face prosecution.   >:(

Its time to vote ALL these poloticians out of office and start over!

I had the chance to speak with quite a few law enforcement types at the Fire Show in Indy this week and what I heard was not only interesting, but disturbing.

The topic of right wing radicalism came up throughout the show and several of those involved with Home Land Security and or Law Enforcement commented that they are suppose to report the names of "anyone" they come into contat with that speaks out against our government.  >:(

Those who shared the info were not at all interested in supporting the directives, assuming its true.  The reason I qualify that is because none of them would share whom that diretcive came from.  They were all consistant in the comments, which leads me to believe its true but none of them were willing to confirm it.  Dont know if thats from fear of retribution or what but it was an eye opener to hear the things we heard.

To the US Government:
I am a Veteran.
I am a Christian
I am Pro Life
I support the 2nd ammendment
I do not support larger government
I still have my 1st Ammendment rights to say what ever the hell I want, good or bad!

Interesting poll result:

Question is, "Is the country (USA) going in the right direction?"

One ABC survey reports that 50% think that we are headed in the right direction>

http://www.pollingreport.com/right.htm

And then there is the other side of the story which says 30% think so.

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Oct21/0,4670,APYahooPollRightTrack,00.html

Between 30% and 50% is a big difference.  But notice that even the Fox article spins the headline to sound better that what is reported!!  And the 50% story shows a positive trend, i.e. more people than last survey think so.  That 50% must all live in Ill. because I can't find anybody in OR, with the second highest unemployment rate, that thinks so.
The current administration has taken a page out of FDR's play book of Fireside Chats telling the sheepeople to feel good about feeling bad.

They said the only positive voice is coming from the lesbian teachers at there school.  They love Pelosi and anything she or this administration does.   >:(
