Steel Truss
« on: February 10, 2008, 09:14:21 AM »
I am looing for some steel truss's to span a 30' opening for my saw shed.  I know I can build them from wood but would rather have steel considering my pitch is so minimul. (1.7/12)

If anyone knows of a good source of quality truss's for a fair price let me know.

Thanks

Hey KEA, Where I work doing steel erection, we always have roof joist left over. The kind like they use in the homedepot's. There great for what your looking for. If you look at my mill building you can see that I used 20 footers and welded 5' angle iron to the ends to make them 30 feet long. You could look around there and when you see one of these buildings going up, go talk to the steel erector and ask if you could have any left over joist. ONLY talk to the steel forman. The job supper WILL say no. You tell the steel forman you will give him $20.00 ea. I'll be willing bet you'll have your joist pretty fast.

 What happened to the modify button  ??? You might be able to talk him (the steelworkers forman) out of some roof decking as well. If you talk to any one other than the steelworkers forman you can just about forget it.

Ok, the modify button has several options, of which one is to allow posts to be modified for a specific period of time.  It was set at 30 minutes.

They recommend a time frame so that posts dont get deleted or added to after a short period.  Helps to keep the content and flow of the thread.

Whats everyones thoughts on a time frame before not being able to change the posts?

The reason I didnt notice this is that as an Admin the Modify button is always there.

Well this whole format is different for me...with the slide buttons to read most of the posts...to me its kind of annoying but I can deal with most anything so...most boards it seems you can just edit anytime you want which is the ultimate really. For me...if push comes to shove and the time thing becomes an issue... I'd have to say I only use it when I first post after re-reading it right away after posting.
I'm guessing you chose this format (slide buttons) because it takes less bandwidth? and thats a REAL guess cuz I know nothing about puters.
It can't be for the convience of the poster. I'm only telling you this because I wanna be honest and as you can probably tell...see this forum succeed...oh yeh, spell check'd be a nice feature too...lol. Hmmmm...unless there is one and I can't see it.

Quote       Modify      Remove        Split Topic

Should see them in the post on the upper right hand corner of your post.

You should be able to use your mouse wheel to scroll down through a page.  I never use the slide bar on the side.

If you hit your reply button in a post you will see the Spell Check button at the bottom of the screen.  I don't have one set up for the quick reply button but am working on it.

Problem is after trucking costs they are out of the price range.

I have 42 foot I need to cover so If they were on 2 foot centers I need 21 of them.  Wood would be a lot cheaper.

These can go on 10 foot centers...depending on the actual snow load of your area....so 5 would do it.
