ele fence spining jenny
« on: April 01, 2011, 07:28:36 PM »
so im going in the intinsified grazeing program were your cattle  graze only an area big enough for a few days then you move them so the manure gets spreed more evenly instead of all at the resting /trees or water hole .
they get to trample the undesirables & eat all the good stuff with out picking & choseing only the favirate.
its soposed to be better for the land & animal.
so im building 4500 ' of 2 strand 121/2 gage smooth wire ele fence . it comes in 4000 ' rolls . they tell me if you cut the bands before it in a jenney or jig it will unwind like a slinkey. so i went on a spinning jenny tool hunt .
found em for $175. that bolts to truck flat bed i wanted one to put on my NAA ford tractor no luck so collected a bunch of scrap i had lieing around & went to welding today & this is what i got
built the hole thing for price of welding wire & bought 5 nuts.

I made one about 35 years ago of similar fashion, mine was done with square tubing and attached it to a partial sheet of plywood, one arm had a rod welded to it so you could wind and unwind the spool and the whole thing could be tossed into a pickup bed or a skid steer bucket.    Absolutely essential to handle high tensile fence wire with.     Over the years I've had to replace the plywood base several times, but the metal is like new yet.      You did a great job of fabricating and thanks for sharing the photo with us.
