sharpening for the Amish
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:38:48 PM »
Well the Amish guy I been sharpening bands for , told me today that he’s getting .70 cents a foot to cut these old barn beams. But he’s providing the beams.
They go tear down old barns to get the beams then saw them for .70
& he’s paying the neabor $25. An hour to run the tractor that powders the mill as he Amish guy can’t have any motors. Then they hire someone to truck it all to KC the buyer I think buyer pays for trucking. He was bragging about delivering $10,000. Load last week but now is to broke to pay for bands, so im holding a check.

I will NEVER do business with the Amish again.  I can list more stories than you can imagine.  Its always a delay or some lame excuse why they cant pay for the service they wanted.

so i delivered the last 2 blades the amish guy had here for sharpening & hes telling me about a job hes doing for Bass pro
2 white oak post 14"x12"x24' hand huen on 3 sides
i pointed out that a tree that big & not rotten is unheard of here
his reply is there paying $1200. each for these Amish hand huen post.
& hes got a deal on 2 semi loads of red cedar to cut
i just dont see how a guy with no phone, no transportation other than a horse, not alloued to own or directly use any power
lives 2 miles off the black top
can find all these deals
probly all BS

I could starve to death without my cell phone.I would say out of all my tools that the phone is number one.I land work daily for my swimming pool work ,and a sawmill job last week.My ship would sink like a rock without getting calls on the road.Maybe he rides his horse and buggy around to get work. But he will always be poor in the long run.  Brian
